If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Bonnie Prince Billy was gently coaxed out of his country comforts, then Phosphorescent may be what you’re looking for. There’s no doubt that the tone of his voice was my first port of call here, but look closely and you will also see the same morbid compulsions, songs that graze on a religiousness in the soul and a sadness tilled out of the landscape. What Phosphorescent adds to this is a little more imagination musically, a little more ambience, a little more anonymity…
If you’re like me, the opening few numbers of the album ‘Pride’ will make you ache…In a good way…
